MEETING OPENING
3:00 PM - Read by meeting leader:
Welcome to SUT LA, a peer-led community practicing in the style of Sayadaw U Tejaniya as taught by Lienchi Tran, focused on developing wisdom through consistency of awareness in daily life. As a sangha of dedicated practitioners, we commit ourselves to meditation and Buddhist principles on a daily basis. Our group emphasizes the importance of dana (generosity) and sila (ethical conduct). As a baseline, we undertake the training of the 5 precepts as we understand them:
•Refraining from taking life.
•Refraining from taking what is not given.
•Refraining from the misuse of sensual pleasure.
•Refraining from wrong speech.
•Refraining from intoxicants that cloud the mind.
As a peer-led group, SUT LA offers no teachings of the dharma, practice guidance, or feedback. We encourage those seeking them to study with a teacher authorized by a monastic lineage holder.
We will now sit silently for 30 minutes.
DHARMA TALK, READING or MINDFUL ACTIVITY
3:30 PM - Meeting leader introduces the (20min. or less) dharma talk or reading (10min. or less read-pass format) chosen from the approved materials, or introduces a mindful activity (20min.).
MINDFUL BREAK
~3:50 PM - Meeting leader announces a 10min. break, with the reminder to continue practicing!
SHARING GUIDELINES
~4:00 PM - Read by meeting leader:
We will now open to sharing until 4:30PM. I will choose a first volunteer who raises their hand, and they will choose the next hand when finished. Please keep your shares to a length that gives space for everyone to have their turn. There is no requirement to share. Our sharing guidelines are as follows:
•We share about our own direct personal experiences within the practice.
•We avoid superfluous references to outside teachings, readings, quotes, and other media not directly related to our practice.
•We do not comment on or give advice or guidance on other’s shares.
•Shares should be focused on the practice itself, avoiding extensive personal details that more befit an authorized support environment.
•We use our understanding of Buddhist ethical principles and common sense to respect the comfort and boundaries of others.
CLOSING
4:30PM - Meeting leader opens the floor to announcements or group business, as well as choosing the leader for the following week.
